Physiotherapist
She noted that he can turn 75% to the left and 100% to the right so he still has tight neck muscles on the left and still has the preference to look right which is the cause of his flat head on the right side. This is also known as Torticollis. She said he doesn't need physiotherapy and gave me some exercises I can do with him at home.
Neurologist
She noted that Erik's face looked very nice and symmetric and he didn't tilt his head too much to one side, however, the flat spot on the back of his head and his ear alignment were a bit stronger than mild, and more on the moderate side of having plagiocephaly.
It's all on a scale out of 15. Erik was marked 6/15. Kids with 7 or more out of 15 are considered for helmets. I was a bit sad to hear it was that close to needing a helmet.
She said from now on, Erik is not to lie on his back except for when he is sleeping, and even then I should have him lie on his side. This means even in the stroller I should have him sitting up with a pillow behind his back so his head doesn't rest and I have to limit car seat time. I have already gotten rid of the swing and the bouncy chair over a month ago. Aside from holding him as much as possible, I am using the following items:
- Baby Bjorn carrier
- Sling carrier
- Exercaucer
- Jolly Jumper
- Bumbo Chair with a tray for his toys so he can play
- Sitting in the high chair with a tray for toys
- Sitting up supporter on his mat with blocks
If anyone can think of any other suggestions, let me know!
The neurologist is scheduling a follow up appointment for mid January where she thinks he can get to a 4/15 by then. I sure hope so!

Wow. Thankfully he doesn't have to wear the helmet!
What about supported by the breastfeeding pillow? Its nice and cozy too. This will keep you busy momma!
Certainly there must be message boards or blogs about this matter.
There are a gazillion boards but there are so many different viewpoints on it all, as with most mothering topics. I have been using the pillow actually - good idea. He still shouldn't really have an pressure on his head. It drives me crazy because at night, he sleeps for 12 hours and I can't always control which side his head is lying?!?!? Grrrr.
